Today around 7pm Makayla ran into the house and told us she had found a 'squirrel' and had it in her playhouse. WHAT? Trying to understand what she meant, this is kind of how our conversation went.
Me: "What do you mean?"
Makayla: "Nya got a squirrel and I put it in my playhouse."
Me: "Is it alive?"
Makayla: "It's eyes are open."
Me: "Did you touch it?"
Makayla: "Yeah, I put it in my playhouse so Nya couldn't get it."
(This is when I told her to go wash her hands and asked Josh to go outside to see what she was talking about. First of all, if there really was a squirrel in her playhouse, I wanted it gone. Secondly, I was just curious as to what on earth she was talking about.)
My mind is failing to remember the funny parts of the story, but basically she got hysterical when we informed her that we couldn't keep it. Josh went out to see what was in the playhouse and found that there was in fact something there, but it wasn't a squirrel. It was a bunny rabbit.
Meet Fuzzy. Apparently our dog, Nya, chased down this bunny in the backyard and killed it. Makayla says she took it from Nya and put it up in the playhouse so that she couldn't hurt it. She blocked off the top of the ladder with rocks to keep Nya out. Then she surrounded Fuzzy with the pine cones and gave her a bowl of dirt and crackers to eat.
Here she is explaining to me what happened.
.
After the burial, we put some rocks around the covered hole and one really big rock on top so that Nya couldn't dig it up. She asked to have some time alone with Fuzzy so we all left her, but as we were walking away we could here her start crying again. Josh went back to check on her. He helped her put some flowers on top of the rock.
We might have a future veterinarian in the family. Now lets just pray that she doesn't ever bring any dead animals into the house to heal them. What a night!
