DC Trip: Day 1

We made the 10+ hour drive to Wasington, DC and arrived this morning around 8am. My best friend Stephanie was married in Costa Rica just after Lilly arrived so I wasn't able to make the trip. Luckily Steffie decided to have a reception in the states, and I wasn't going to miss it!

Here are some pictures from our first day in DC. We started the day off visiting with Steff and her family at her apartment. From there, we went to the Arlington National Cemetery. What an overwhelming experience to see the volume of death that our Nation has experienced. At the tomb of the unknown soldier they have the changing of the guard ceremony every 30 minutes. It is amazing!

After that, we went to the hotel and checked in. We all ended up falling asleep and not waking up until 6:30pm. After showers, we finally headed towards the Metro around 8:30pm. It was only about 4 blocks to the Metro, which was a very nice walk especially at night when it was cooler. Layla was super excited to ride the 'train'.

We went to The Mall area and walked by the Washington Monument (it was already closed so we didn't get to go to the top), the World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Makes you proud to be an American!
